Sunday Feb 25 2024, was Old Timers day at the Brattleboro Lodge #1499. The PER’s initiated 8 new members. Please give them a warm welcome.

BRATTLEBORO LODGE #1499 DRUG AWARENESS NEWS

Brattleboro Lodge #1499 had a great location for our Drug Awareness Trailer at the Harris Hill Ski Jump on Saturday Feb 17, 2024. .  Elroy the Elk greeted visitors and had their pictures taken with him and got great goodie bags!   This yearly event  has the Olympic-size, 90-meter hill and draws competitors from all over the world.  It also featured Friday evening ski jumping from the newly installed lights donated by the Brattleboro Elks.

SPRINGFIELD ELKS LODGE #1560 NEWS

Recently, Springfield Elks Lodge #1560 presented Director Lori Johnson of the Springfield Senior Center with a $1000 award from an Elks National Foundtion Gratitude Grant.
 
Ms’ Johnson had a need for lighter folding rectangular plastic folding tables for the center.  Also she said they have a need for new Alera Reception-Style Stacking Chairs. Their total expense needed came to $1862.69 and the Elks Grant will go towards these expenses. The tables they have at present are very heavy to move around.

SPRINGFIELD ELKS LODGE #1560 NEWS

In Vermont, food shelves are a big community need and Springfield Lodge #1560 awarded an Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant in the amount of $1,500.00 to the Springfield Family Center to help out that need.  
 
Director Trisha Paradis was very appreciative for the help for the community who come to her building each week for help. The Center has been in business since 1971 and has been able to connect individuals and families to charitable food resources with the gracious help of her community.  1 in 3 Springfield residents struggle with food insecurity.  52% of Vermont households report having to choose between purchasing food or paying their bills.

VT ELKS STATE HOOP SHOOT HELD JAN 27 AT SPAULDING HIGH SCHOOL IN BARRE.

Three Island Pond winners in the Vt. Elks State Hoop Shoot held on Jan. 27 at Spaulding High School in Barre,Vt.   Lincoln Sykes, Elsie Kilborn and Jackson Kilborn will advance to the Regional competition in Maine to compete against 5 other contestants from New England to advance to the National competition in Chicago in April.

The Vt State Elks Hoop Shoot gives a trophy to the high scoring girl or boy of the day in memory of Ken McAdam who was always there for the Hoop Shoot. He worked as line judge at the local, district and State contest and a rebounder for the Regional level. His wife was there to present the trophy today for the high scoring shooter. The trophy was presented to Jackson Kilborn who shot 23/25

MVS State Scholarship Judging Begins this Week 2/1

VSE Association State Scholarship Judging will begin this week which includes judging for the ENF Most Valuable Student and the VT State Roger Sheridan scholarship applications.
 
If you are a lodge scholarship committee chair, scholarship committee member, or an interested member, we invite you to participate in this judging process in one of three ways:
 
1) On-premise (Springfield Elks Lodge 1560) Sunday 2/4 – Noon:
  • Participants must bring a laptop to log in and judge directly applications assigned (this is a great option for 1st-time committee members)
2) Remote via Google Meets Sunday 2/4 – 12:30 PM:
  • The meeting will start remotely at 12:30 PM (30 mins behind the on-premise)
  • Participants will judge directly from the portal applications assigned.
3) Remote Judging unassisted Thursday 2/1 – Sunday 2/4:
  • Participants who know what to do and just want to be able to complete application judging at their convenience from Thursday 2/2 – Saturday MIDNIGHT 2/4
  • Participants will judge directly from the portal applications assigned.
